As one of the first passengers in the cabin, I watched fellow travelers shuffle down the aisle, fumbling with their suitcases and bags. It was the first time I really took it in: The music the airline plays during boarding. It fit so strongly with the moment and the destination, and the feeling I had about that trip.

Thus began my search for other airlines' boarding music. Do you board with me through my favorites?

1. Etihad Airways

Where my fascination with boarding music began: The mysterious, fairy tale sound of Etihad Airways. This soundtrack was composed by Ramesh Sathiah, and was also featured in Etihad's TV commercial with Nicole Kidman. This boarding music makes you think of sultry, Arabian evenings in the desert, doesn't it?

2. Malaysia Airlines

Majestic, that's how I would describe the Malaysia Airlines soundtrack. Like stepping into a beautiful palace where the whole world comes together and you still marvel at everything around you. One of my favorites. Ready for take off!

3. Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines also chose boarding music that gives you a wonderful relaxed, hopeful feeling. Staring out of the airplane window at the clouds and millions of lights below, everyone busy with their own happiness, this is a song that will make you dream.

4. Emirates

The soundtrack of Emirates gives me the feeling of expectation and hope: The world is at your feet and anything is possible. A nice positive feeling! Emirates' track has a little more variety in its composition, but like Etihad's, it has something tale-like.

5. Cathay Pacific

Another beautiful composition, produced by Hong Kong-based Johnny Yim. Like the one from Etihad Airways, one to relax to. And the song also feels a bit adventurous, right?

6. Turkish Airlines

From lively bazaars to cozy teahouses: With the cheerful boarding music of Turkish Airlines you are almost in Istanbul with your head. And great fun too: the music is so lively and cheerful that you'll spontaneously feel like dancing. You can hardly get a flight off to a better start, can you?
