Explore with holiday carrier Air Transat

Since it was founded over two decades ago, and following its takeover of NationAir, Air Transat has grown to become one of Canada's leading air operators. It serves over 3.5 million customers a year, advertising itself mainly as a tourist and leisure airline -- under the slogan "Vacation is calling" -- and it now flies to over 60 national and international destinations. It focuses on winter sun to the south during the colder months and popular European destinations in the summer, with a combination of scheduled and charter flights. Operating primarily out of Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, it also serves Calgary, Quebec and over 10 other airports in its native Canada -- its offers range from long-range city breaks to winter sports holidays and sunshine getaways.

With a 30-strong fleet including the Airbus 330, Airbus 310 and Boeing 737, Air Transat boasts a modern and efficient transcontinental and transatlantic service. Third only to Air Canada and WestJet in its domestic market, the airline has become steadily better known outside it, helped by eye-catching deals from London Gatwick. Its corporate responsibility drive, a bid for greater environmental sustainability and efforts to build its service brand are also raising its profile.

Flying with Air Transat

The airline offers Club Class service on a number of its routes. Travellers can enjoy priority boarding and baggage service in departures. Once on-board the aircraft, Club Class offers wider leather seats, extra legroom and individual touch-screens with a range of films, music and other entertainment.

Economy Class also offers good standards of comfort. Most flights offer individual or shared cabin screens plus ergonomic seats and a refreshments service. Option Plus gives you a choice of further perks. A range of Eco fares allow you to further tailor your flight experience -- this can be particularly useful for offsetting cancellations and date change fees.

Practical information

Online check-in is available to and from most destinations, from 24 hours to 2 hours before the scheduled departure time.

The airline's complex baggage policy varies by destination -- for more information, see [https://www.airtransat.com/en-GB/Travel-information-from-England/Baggage/Weight-and-size-what-you-can-bring]. As a guide:

  • 10 kg hand luggage (15 kg for Club Class) must be no larger than 23 x 40 x 51 cm.
  • One item of checked baggage up to 23 kg is included for most economy and all Option Plus flights.
  • Club Class flyers are allowed two items up to 25 kg.
  • Transat cruise and package customers typically get additional luggage allowance.

*Return fares per person, including taxes, excluding the £5.00 booking fee.
