Air India, began operating on October 15, 1932. It was known as Tata Airlines after its founder, J.R.D. Tata. But after the Second World War, the airline was renamed Air India and became a public limited company.

Since 2001, the airline is in the privatization process as a way of improving its effectiveness. The central hub of Air India is in the Indira International Airport in New Delhi. However, it also has Chhatrapati, Shivaji, and Maharaj as subsidiary hubs.
